TMF funding will support research and development of the Agromovil technology platform, as well as field testing scheduled for late 2017/early 2018 in Colombia.

Agromovil Selected by Carnegie Mellon University for Prototype Development

For the past few months, Agromovil has been working with a team of five students and two professors from the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Carnegie Mellon University to develop the app platform. Significant progress has been made and Agromovil is on track for piloting in Colombia during early 2018. Core functionalities such as pre-arranging transport, matching farmers with transporters, and data capture have already been built. Additional development is ongoing.

Colombia Market Study Completed

During August and September, a well known Colombian agronomist with extensive experience in the avocado producing region conducted an in-depth study of the avocado market in Colombia, focusing on production, payment, and transport. Agromovil will be piloting its innovative technology in the avocado sector by building partnerships with agricultural associations, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), and financial institutions. The study focused on the specific pain points felt by small farmers and transporters when getting their crops to market. It is from this on-the-ground research and analysis, that the Agromovil prototype and pilot design were built.

Held this year in Ixtapa, Mexico, Opportunity Collaboration convenes over 400 global leaders striving to building sustainable solutions to global poverty. A mix of social entrepreneurs, grant-makers, impact investors, corporate + academic field-leaders, and aligned media, Andrew Mack was invited to speak on sustainable agriculture and led a panel on food security, including group discussions on Agromovil.
